A new Nevada law goes into effect this month (July 2011) that excludes the cost of painting, towing and replacement of any electronic components from the total loss calculation; a vehicle is declared a total loss if the cost of repairs, other than these excluded items, exceeds 65 percent of the vehicle’s value.
Nevada lawmakers this year also voted to expand the state’s Advisory Board on Automotive Repairs to 10 members (up from seven), adding one representative each for insurers, car dealers and authorized emissions stations; collision repairers already had one representative on the board.
