As insurers in Texas were dealing with hail claims expected to surpass $900 million following a June 13 storm in Plano and east Dallas, officials also announced that last year’s hail damage was the highest in years.
The storm in Texas brought baseball- and softball-sized hail in a storm system that stretched for almost 30 miles from north to south. The National Weather Service said it could turn out to be the fourth-costliest hail storm in state history.
The Highway Loss Data Institute announced this month that there 244,800 hail-related car insurance claims filed nationally last year, which amounted to $797.2 million in payments. That’s the highest numbers of claims in the past three years.
